Like the article said, he was the co creator of D&D, plus he created the Greyhawk world for D&D, which was the universe where we got all of the traditional spells, monsters, and deities of D&D today. While Grehawk was traditional, which goes up agains Eberons steampunk feel, Forgotton realms multi world feel, and Planescapes multi universe feel, Greyhawk was actually pretty good if you knew how to run it...actually I only know of the setting from a PC game.
Anyway, whether your into games like Dungeons and dragons, Vampire the masquerade, or Final fantasy, you owe it to this guy for bringing RPGs to what it is today.

Don't forget, without him, there would probably be no Final fantasy, hence no Pokemon. O.O
I may be over exaturating, though the first Final fantasy does resemble D&D a lot.

Go on, prove me wrong. Destroy the fabric of the universe. See if I care.

I mispelled his name, and now it sounds a hell of a lot like that animation studio Gainax. i_i
