E3, and Borderlands

Thu Jun 4, 2009, 9:27 PM
Alright, so has anybody been keeping up with years E3? I have, and so far there's lots of cool games to see that will come out soon.

Anyway, here are my picks from E3:

Brutal Legend: If anyone's been reading my DA blog, or talked to me online, you would know that I am really, really stoked for Brutal Legend. An action game from the creators of Psychonauts. You basically have a roadie transported into a realm made up entirely of Heavy metal references, and famous metal figures such as Ozzy Osbourn, and Lemmy. Don't forget that the roadie himself is played by Jack Black.

Darksiders: A game created by JoeMad, creator of the Battle chasers comic, and his company Vigil games. You play as one of the four hoursemen of the apocalypse, war as he turns his back on hell. So he's fighting in a war between the forces of Heaven and hell.

Halo 3 ODST: I'm glad I got to see some gameplay footage of the game finally. Suppose to be an expansion to the original Halo 3, but you play as an ODST, rather than the Chief. Looks like a throw back to old school Halo action, which I'm guessing Bungie wanted to do before they said bye bye to there baby...speaking of which.

Halo Reach: I was kind of disappointed when Bungie announced there next game, and it was a Halo game. Don't get me wrong, I love Halo, and I'm looking forward to not only this game, but ODST. Though it would have been nice to see a new game from our friends at Bungie...someone please give them there license back for Myth please.

Anyway, I do love the novel, and I am looking forward how Bungie translate the book into a gaming experience.

Borderlands: While the only video people got to see of Borderlands was the change of graphics, I still love the concept of the game. Basically it's a first person shooter, with elements of Diablo, and Mad Max...ohh, and did I forget to mention that I play tested it?

That's right, yesterday I went to the focus testing group for Gearbox, and I got a chance to play some of it. I can't talk about the actual experience (contract, sorry) all I have to say is that you should look up all you can regarding this game. Rent it, or buy it when it comes out, and prepare for an awesome game...oh, and if you got an Xbox live account, do co-op with me okay?

I've been watching it on G4 this week. This is the year Nintendo finally got it right. A Metroid game from Team Ninja AND a second fully-3D Mario game on the same console? I applaud with thunderous enthusiasm. It managed to heal the kick to the balls I got from Hideo Kojima's announcement during the Microsoft press conference...but there's still a scar.

The only thing, literally the only thing I had a problem with regarding Nintendo at their press conference was the Vitality Sensor. It's as if they don't realize that people play video games to not exercise.

Of course, Microsoft had the biggest dick hat on during their press conference, what with the Facebook announcement and that Natal crap. As if they couldn't look anymore like some sort of hipster.

I haven't been keeping up with the company confrences, just the game trailers. xD

You mean the new MGS Rising game? I'm personally looking forward to that, because it's a new MGS game, and plus it's the second time the Xbox has gotten an Xbox MGS title...though that's just me, and I don't a Wii or PS3.

I seriously can't stand the 360. There, I said it. I have a Wii, but there are days I look at it and feel somewhat disappointed, thinking that the money could have gone to a PS3. So, now I'm saving up for the latter. I just feel betrayed by Konami, you know?

Well it's not like Rising isn't also coming to PS3. They confirmed it's not an Xbox 360 Exclusive. I personally thought MS had a pretty boring and contradictory show. They kept talking about diversity and how the 360 has something for everyone, and yet all they showed were First Person Shooters and action shooters. The only RPG of note was Final Fantasy XIII and from the sounds of it, a lot of people may be boycotting that game(I've heard that SE has lost 1/3 of their audience since announcing FFXIII would be on 360) Not to mention the exclusive lineup was pretty frigging lame. TWO Halo games(gag me) Alan Wake(The only thing that looked good to me) Left4Dead 2(which should be called L4D 1.5) A gears expansion and...thats it basically, everything else they showed was so boring I can't even remember it. Honestly, were it not for MGS Rising they would have had a complete bomb of a show(The Natal thing just looks lame, just let Nintendo do the motion thing)
At least Sony HAD some fucking diversity(not saying they're show was amazinh) but they did at least show off a few games from different Genres(GT5, FFXIII, FFXIV, Uncharted 2, GOWIII, MGS Peacewalker, White Knight Chronicles) And best of all NIS announced they were working on a new Console Strat RPG(And even better its from the Disgaea team) so yeah that was awesome. MS really didn't impress me this year.

Ah, words I'm actually familiar with. That's alright if you don't like the 360, though I don't see why you would feel this way, just because the 360 get's a MGS title of there own...I mean, you don't see my complaining about how FF13 Verses isn't going to be on the 360, or any of the Uncharted games.

...but that's just me.

When did I ever say MGS was a bad thing. As i said before MGS was one of the few GOOD things to come from that show. And again, you put words in my mouth because i never said i dont like the 360. I SAID I thought the E3 show was lame. I own a 360, why would I buy something and then keep it if I didn't like it?
As I said, they didn't show much of anything outside of the shooter genre, MGS Rising was one of the few interesting games and it didn't even have any gameplay yet. Not to mention, thats not even an exclusive MGS game, so it would make even LESS sense for me to be mad about it being on 360 even if i was the fanboy you keep portraying me as...
:iconkingofkof:
Sorry, I thought that last comment was aimed at me, it appeared above my comment for some weird reason. I guess you weren't my bad ^^; sorry about that.

Like I said, I don't like the 360. If any press conference blew me away, it was Nintendo. This was the year they finally got it right. New Super Mario Bros. Wii, SUPER MARIO GALAXY 2 (capitals for emphasis), Golden Sun DS, and probably the biggest surprise, Metroid: Other M. Seriously, Team Ninja and Nintendo? On a Metroid game? They had me at hello.

Unfortunately, I didn't get much of a chance to see the Sony press conference, but I'll take your word for it. The announcement from NIS strikes me as interesting, since I've been a fan of the Disgaea series for a while. If I had a PS3, I would have bought Absence of Justice in a heartbeat.

Well Nintendo's conference blew alright. Hell they made MS looked good. Honestly, NIntendo REALLY annoyed me this year. All they kept talking about was how much everyone loves the wii and how cool the controller is. They games they showed for the most part were BS(and Sorry but NSMB should have stayed on DS and I havent liked a Mario console game since SMB on SNES, the 3d ones just bore me to tears) the ONLY things to come out of that event that I was impressed with was Golden Sun and Final Fantasy. The only true metroid in my eyes are the sidescrollers, not the bad 1 dimensional FPS titles they perverted it into.
